Beat The GMAT!

Beat The GMAT is a day-to-day blog detailing how I studied for and beat the Graduate Management Admission Test™ (GMAT). This site shall serve as a study guide for future GMAT test takers.

Day 75 - GMATPrep 2

Today I took the second full-length practice test off of the new GMATPrep software. I'm quite pleased with the result: 740 (49Q, 42V). This is the highest score I've received on any practice test. Hopefully, this score is a good indicator of how I will actually perform on the real test because GMATPrep--like PowerPrep--uses retired GMAT questions.

There has been a lot of buzz about the new GMATPrep software and how its questions do not overlap with earlier editions of the Official Guide. Sadly, I've found that this hasn't been the case. While most of the questions I've seen on GMATPrep have indeed been new, there are a handful of questions I've seen in the quantitative and verbal sections that are taken from Official Guide 10th Edition. But again, most of the material on GMATPrep is new so it is still good software to use.

Anyway, I feel like I'm in a good position for this final week. Only 10 points below my target!

SUMMARY OF DAY 75 WORK:
1. GMATPrep practice test 2.
2. Flashcards.

RECAP OF DAY 75 INSIGHTS:
1. GMATPrep's material isn't totally fresh. Expect to see some overlap with Official Guide 10th Edition.

Hi.. i just completed my GMAT last month. The week before I did exam scored 760 on Powerprep 2 and ended up with 720 on actual exam. concensus i get is that Powerprep actually slightly easier than actual GMAT

GMATPrep is the newer version of PowerPrep. GMATPrep is supposed to be more representative of the actual test because it features two practice tests with quant sections that are tougher than what you would find on PowerPrep. Hopefully, that means GMATPrep tests provide a more accurate simulation than its predecessor.

I agree with you though, PowerPrep tends to be slightly easier than what you should expect on the real exam.

Go back to my post and click on any 'GMATPrep' word--it will link you to where you can download the software.

740 on the GMAT Prep is pretty good. It is definitely tougher and more in line with the actual test than the Powerprep is. All the best for your GMAT, keep us posted.
